Last updated: 30 October 2026.
This policy explains the security-update commitment for the EM8 Hub, encompassing Engineer M8 hub-based products and their Ethernet and 4G variants. Security updates address weaknesses that could put a device, its information or connected services at risk.
Minimum security support period
Engineer M8 commits to a minimum five-year security-update term for the EM8 Hub. The current declared support period is 31 October 2026 to 31 October 2031 inclusive. Security support is available from publication of this policy, and the guaranteed minimum support end date is 31 October 2031.
This is a declared calendar support period, rather than a new five-year period starting with each purchase. We will not shorten a published minimum support period. Any extension will be published promptly on this page.
Ongoing updates with an active subscription
Customers receive ongoing software and security updates for as long as their EM8 Hub has an active, paid monthly subscription, including beyond the minimum support end date. These updates are included in the subscription without a separate update fee.
The minimum security-update commitment is independent of the subscription. Ending a subscription does not remove entitlement to necessary security updates during the declared minimum support period. It does end access to the subscribed operational services.
What happens when a subscription ends
4G: we terminate the mobile data connection, with the ability to re-enable it when service is restored. A hub without connectivity cannot receive updates remotely.
Ethernet: we close outbound connections apart from the heartbeat used to check service status. This limited heartbeat does not restore the subscribed functionality and should not be treated as a normal update connection.
Service suspension does not mean that a device has been permanently disconnected from every network or that security support is no longer required. For a suspended hub within its minimum support period, contact us to arrange an appropriate way to obtain and install necessary security updates. This security-update support does not require renewal of the operational subscription or restore paid functionality.
What security support includes
During the declared support period, we will provide necessary security updates for the EM8 Hub’s update-capable hardware and firmware, pre-installed software and software needed for its intended operation. This includes relevant software developed by or for Engineer M8 and associated services required for those functions.
We assess reported vulnerabilities and relevant component updates, prioritise them according to risk and test changes before release. Updates may include fixes, security configuration changes or replacement of vulnerable software components. Security support does not promise new features, hardware repairs or compatibility with every future third-party service.
Receiving and installing updates
The delivery method depends on the hub configuration and software version. We will provide instructions for automatic, remotely managed or manually installed updates, including any required restart or service interruption. Keep the device powered and connected when following update instructions, and use only official Engineer M8 update channels.
Necessary security updates within the minimum support period are provided without an additional security-update charge. Connectivity charges may still apply. If a hub has been offline or suspended, contact us for update guidance before returning it to normal use.
Third-party equipment
Separate cameras, recorders, trackers and other equipment manufactured by third parties may have their own firmware and support schedules. This EM8 Hub policy does not extend those separate manufacturers’ commitments.
Where third-party components form part of the EM8 Hub for which Engineer M8 has manufacturer obligations, those components do not remove our responsibility for the complete hub’s published security support commitment.
After the minimum support period
Updates continue while the hub has an active, paid monthly subscription. For a hub without an active subscription, security updates after the published minimum end date are not guaranteed unless an extension has been published. We will publish information about extensions and end-of-support options on this page. Customers should plan to replace or retire unsupported devices, or follow published risk-reduction advice.
Public support information
This policy and the support end date are available without payment, login or providing personal information. The applicable support end date should be read alongside the product purchase information. If we publish a later support period for a future hub version, we will clearly identify its scope.
